The Gateway programme is a Tertiary Education Commission funded initiative for senior students in high schools. It is used to bridge the gap between school and work, workplace education and tertiary education. Our students benefit by earning unit standard credits through study time and real work placements (often with local employers) during the school year.

If you would like to participate as a Gateway employer during the year for one of our students, please contact our office on 03 615 7442.

Future learning and careers with
Gateway
?

I really enjoy being the teacher in charge of Gateway and Careers at Opihi College because it allows me to connect with students in a meaningful way, helping them explore their passions and prepare for the future. Whether through coordinating work experience, offering one-on-one career counselling or providing resources for further education and training, it's incredibly rewarding to support students in discovering the pathway that suits them best. Watching their confidence grow as they take steps toward their future is what makes this role so fulfilling.
