Temuka/Geraldine Rotary Peace Pole Fundraiser a Success
Thanks to support from our Head Student, Hazel Johnston.
During Term 2/3, our head student, Hazel Johnston, gave her time and support to the Temuka/Geraldine Rotary Club's Peace Pole fundraiser.
This is a quote featured in the Courier/Rotary Facebook page recently from the President of the Temuka/Geraldine Rotary, Viki McKenzie.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a success. Special shout-out to our amazing team:
• Valentina (Head Girl Geraldine High School) and Hazel (Head Girl Opihi College) for their combined commitment and passion for this project; using their marketing, advertising, co-ordination skills and support with raffle sales.
We are proud of Hazel for showing the CARE values of Community and Excellence by working with the Rotary members and Valentina to help see the peace poles planted in both Geraldine and Temuka. Mahi nui Hazel!
MUSIC
Congratulations to musician Riley Cornelius whose original song "To Lose You" was selected as a finalist in the 2024 National Secondary School Songwriting Competition.
Riley entered his original song in the "Play It Strange" music competition where there were 383 song entries from high schools all over New Zealand. Judges Ladi6 and Mike Chunn reported they were "blown away by the quality of songwriting this year" and "the record breaking number of entries". A great achievement for Riley to be placed in the top 60 entries!
Riley's prize is a day at a professional recording studio to record his song.
Once all of the 60 songs have been professionally recorded, they will be released as albums on Spotify, Bandcamp and other digital platforms.
Another example of our exceptional and talented students at our beloved Opihi College.
Well done Riley!!
