Mathematics

Pangarau

Through a variety of instructional methods, including the use of audio visual material, group activities, and problem-solving exercises, students gain a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and their relevance. The subject's universal language and logical structure make it a cornerstone of a well-rounded education.

In years 7 & 8, students will continue to strengthen the fundamentals of mathematics and prepare to advance into year 9 & 10 where they will take more control of their learning journey.

Math is with us every day! During year 9 & 10, you'll explore how math is used in practical topics like: Give me my money back! Budgeting Basics; Life is a game - play it well and Take a chance!

Senior students will continue to develop algebraic and graphical skills as well as encounter the new ideas of calculus (a topic essential for higher study in physical sciences or engineering). The course also covers aspects of statistics and probability. Students interested in Business, Marketing, and Commerce who are in Years 12 and 13 may also choose to join the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme.

One of the appeals, as well as hindrances, of mathematics is its challenging nature. It brings me great joy to know that I am not just sharing knowledge as a maths teacher, but also empowering critical thinking, instilling resilience, and developing problem-solving skills within my students. I revel in the challenge of making maths engaging, interesting, and hopefully even fun! I believe that helping children overcome their fear of failure in the maths classroom—and fostering a willingness to continually push themselves and always put in their best efforts—brings great benefits not only to their education but also to their resilience and determination in many aspects of life.
